Pattern of Destiny: The Hierophant

Updated: Nov 15, 2020

Let’s pick up where we left off with the next personal pattern of destiny card in our series, The Hierophant! The Hierophant will be the focus of 2021, so let’s get a quick preview into what this card could hold in store for us.

Standard disclaimer that if you haven’t yet, I encourage you to read the below linked introductions to this topic prior to reading the explanation of each card. (Bonus: this will also help you figure out which pattern of destiny and life lesson posts are most relevant for you!)

For more context on when or why I like using the Pattern of Destiny personality (aka "birthday") card approach, check out the first Pattern of Destiny: The Magician post.

Let’s continue, shall we?

So in the Fool’s Journey, the Hierophant is the fifth card that we encounter. Now that we’ve familiarized ourselves with our ego and intuition as well as the projective and receptive material energies that we can associate with our parents, we are introduced to the concept of community.

If your Pattern of Destiny number is 5 or 14, then you have the Hierophant as your personality (aka soul) card. What does that mean?

Hierophants are…

  • Champions of systems, law & order and rules which govern society

  • Sometimes don’t think the rules apply to them, however

  • Family-oriented with an appreciation for traditions

  • “Teachers/preachers”

  • Pillars - often found working in education, law, religion or other institutions, as well as with computers (systems)

The Shadow: When out of balance, Hierophants are challenged by…

  • Too much emphasis on the rules

  • Championing their ideal community or society (that may not be ideal for all)

Individuals whose pattern of destiny is the number 5 (aka "straight 5s"), as opposed to 14s, have the Hierophant as both their personality and life lesson card. That is to say that these individuals may be more challenged by both the strengths and weaknesses of the Hierophant personality card than their 14 counterpart. For straight 5s, Temperance (14) is a shadow card that still impacts them subtly but is not their prime challenge or lesson in life.

Fives are also more significant in readings for 5 and 14 Hierophants as they share the same base number, 5.

Famous Hierophants...

  • Beyonce – Hierophant

  • Kim Kardashian West – Hierophant

  • Angelina Jolie - Hierophant

  • Abraham Lincoln – Temperance Hierophant

  • Charles Darwin – Temperance Hierophant

  • Adolf Hitler – Temperance Hierophant

  • Mao Zedong – Temperance Hierophant

  • Kim Il Sung – Temperance Hierophant

I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about the Hierophant personality. Look for more entries in this series in the future.

In peace & love,
