Full Moon in Aquarius: Rebel in the Spotlight

Updated: Sep 16, 2020

There’s a lot going on in the skies in 2020, and August starts us off with a potentially fun and certainly unusual series of astrological alignments. If nothing else, this month’s full moon in Aquarius on August 3rd promises one thing: Expect the unexpected.

Are you ready?

What’s so unique about this month’s full moon? To begin with, the Moon will be at 11 degrees of Aquarius while the Sun will be in opposition at 11 degrees Leo (hence a full moon). Simultaneously, both luminaries will be squaring Uranus at 10 degrees Taurus.

Uranus is the rebel, the revolutionary, the scientist. As a bonus, it rules the topic du jour: astrology. And with the full moon being in the sign of Aquarius, which also happens to be ruled by Uranus, combined with the fact that both the Moon and Sun will be squaring this planet and thus casting their light on this unconventional planet, we can almost certainly expect something sudden and unanticipated.

And if that isn’t enough, there are a few more noteworthy alignments occurring on August 3rd. Because, 2020. Thankfully, these aren’t nearly as intense as some we’ve been seeing and will see later this year.

For the more advanced student of astrology, these alignments are:

  • Mars at 19 Aries square Jupiter at 19 Capricorn

  • Mercury at 27 Cancer opposing Saturn at 27 Capricorn

The good news is that Uranus is a neutral planet (neither a benefic or a malefic); it’s just swift and associated with surprise or innovation. Think shock and awe. (Coincidentally, the Sun is in Leo which is the Sun’s domicile as well as the sign of the dramatic.)

Now let’s bring in the tarot for an additional level of insight.

If you don’t happen to know the Golden Dawn astrological associations in the major arcana, I’ll use this opportunity to plug the Zodiacal Constellation Tarot Spread. You can subscribe to my mailing list below to receive a free handout which includes these correspondences along with a neat mandala tarot spread activity.

Let’s look at the Moon in Aquarius through the tarot lens. The sign of Aquarius is represented by the Star card. Hopes, messages. The Moon card is represented by the High Priestess. Intuition, the unseen world.

We could also take it a step further and add in the actual Moon card itself. Dreams, psychism.

Are we seeing a trend?

The universe will be primed to give us a cosmic insight if we are listening. The message will likely be an unexpected one, catch us by surprise, or shock us. (Figuratively or literally! Uranus also rules technology and electricity.) Coincidences may be more meaningful during this time. Pay attention to your dreams, in particular.

What is your intuition telling you this full moon season?

In peace & love,
